All the top players in the world will be competing and there is no clear cut favorite on either side. The US Open is considered by many to be the most competitive grand slam tournament of the season. The women's field is led by Serena Williams, winner of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year. Last year's champion, Kim Clijsters, looks to repeat as other highly-ranked players, Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova, also are not to be counted out as potential champions this year.
