Built in 1952 as a venue for Musicals and Operetta performances, the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is an open-air 15,000-seat amphitheater that sits ocean side. The Nikon at Jones Beach Theater originally opened with just over 8,200 seats, however 2 bouts of remodeling and additions have since increased the theater's capacity to 15,000 spectators.

Since opening more than a half century ago, the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater has been an extremely popular summer concert destination for New York residents. The venue opened originally as the Theater at Jones Beach, but in 2002, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger purchased the naming rights, and the theater's name was changed to the Tommy Hilfiger at Jones Beach Theater. Four years later, Nikon bought the naming rights giving the theater it's current name, the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.
