April 16, 2013 - TSN in Canada reports a series of outdoor NHL games are to be played next season!

According to TSN the league will unveil what they're going to call "The Stadium Series".

These are the games that have been reported by TSN, of course the January 1 game is already official as well as January 25, 26, 29 and March 1:

• Jan. 1 - TOR vs DET @ Michigan Stadium
• Jan. 25 - ANA vs LA @ Dodger Stadium
• Jan. 26 - NJD vs NYR @ Yankee Stadium
• Jan. 29 - NYI vs NYR @ Yankee Stadium
• Mar. 1 - PIT vs CHI @ Soldier Field
• Mar. 2 - OTT vs VAN @ BC Place*

April 6, 2013 - The NHL is holding a press conference tomorrow to officially announce the 2014 Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, it has been learned.

March 2013 - Rumors persist that the NHL will hold a Winter Classic in Los Angeles. Possible venues include Dodger Stadium and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, also mentioned has been the Rose Bowl. It can only be assumed the game would include the Los Angeles Kings but this is all speculation at this point.

February 26, 2013 - Yesterday a rumor leaked that the NHL is looking to expand the outdoor game format to include more games next season. TheFourthPeriod.com reported the following:

The NHL is planning a series of outdoor games which will begin with the Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor and also see games in Canada, Yankee Stadium and Dodger Stadium. Other venues and cities are also in consideration.

January 16, 2013: Detroit Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland confirms the Winter Classic will be held on 1/1/2014 in Ann Arbor between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs.

Some NHL fans already suspected the 2014 NHL Winter Classic might feature the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens or Detroit Red Wings since their game was canceled. The Maple Leafs and Canadiens are the only Original Six teams not to play in the Winter Classic to this point, but Montreal has been in the Heritage Classic (the outdoor NHL game played in Canada).

As fans may recall from the past, an NHL source confirmed to PhillyBurbs.com on May 12, 2011 that the 2012 NHL Winter Classic will feature the New York Rangers vs the Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. To this date, it has not been announced if the NHL will play a second outdoor game based in Canada, as they did on February 20, 2011. The second outdoor game featured the Canadiens and Flames in Calgary and was dubbed "The Heritage Classic", visit here for Heritage Classic tickets. The Heritage Classic is rumored to resume in 2013.

The Rangers vs Flyers game was the 5th Winter Classic so far. The NHL's 4th Annual Winter Classic was an unqualified success held New Year's Day 2011 at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field. The Winter Classic featured a matchup between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins and was a thrilling game which ended with Washington on top, 3-1.

Rumor and speculation on future Winter Classic sites is very widespread. Some of the sites mentioned on the TSN broadcast of the Winter Classic are:
