Some NHL fans already suspect the 2011 NHL Winter Classic will feature the Washington Capitals vs. the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium in New York. It makes sense, the NHL will have their best player, Alexander Ovechkin in the biggest media market, New York City against an Original Six team.

The NHL's 3rd Annual Winter Classic was held New Year's Day 2010 at Boston's Fenway Park featuring a matchup between the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins!

The 2011 NHL Winter Classic is subject to wild speculation in the planning stages as rumors are flying in regards to location and possible matchups. How much longer can the NHL hold this event without including the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs? The 2011 Winter Classic almost certainly has to include at least one of these Original Six teams.

Early on, many NHL hockey fans suspect the brand new Yankee Stadium in New York will host the 2011 NHL Winter Classic but that has not been determined yet.
