In addition to the Flyers vs Bruins at Fenway, the NHL is exploring the idea of a second game on New Year's Day 2010 featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs vs Calgary Flames at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

NHL fans suspect the 2011 NHL Winter Classic will feature the Washington Capitals vs. the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium in New York.

The NHL's 2nd Annual Winter Classic was held New Year's Day 2009 at Chicago's Wrigley Field featuring an Original Six matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings!

For those who may not be aware, the NHL started with six franchises (now referred to as the "Original Six") back in the early 1900's. Those franchises are still going strong today --

1. Boston Bruins
2. Chicago Blackhawks
3. Detroit Red Wings
4. Montreal Canadiens
5. New York Rangers
6. Toronto Maple Leafs

The Red Wings were victorious over the hometown Blackhawks by a score of 6-4. The Blackhawks jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the powerful offense of the Red Wings proved to be too much for them to handle.

The 2010 NHL Winter Classic was subject to wild speculation in the planning stages as rumors were flying in regards to location and possible matchups. The Boston Herald early on claimed the Bruins will host the Rangers or Canadiens at Fenway Park but later on ESPN reported it will be the Philadelphia Flyers vs Boston Bruins. The NHL has confirmed that the 2010 NHL Winter Classic will feature the Boston Bruins vs Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park in Boston. As always, the Winter Classic will be held on New Year's Day January 1st.

Early on, many NHL hockey fans suspected the brand new Yankee Stadium in New York would host the NHL Winter Classic but now it lookslike the 2011 Winter Classic will feature the New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals -- or another NHL opponent, but that has not confirmed as of yet.

It is official that the NHL will hold the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway Park and feature the Boston Bruins vs Philadelphia Flyers.
