About Wachovia CenterWachovia Center tickets are on sale now. The Wachovia Center was built between 1994 and 1996 as the old home of the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia 76ers was starting to show its age. The Wachovia Center had a "soft" opening with a concert by Ray Charles in early August of 1996. Later that Month the Wachovia Center had its grand opening event hosting Game One of the World Cup of Hockey between Team USA and Team Canada. The Wachovia center opened as the CoreStates Center, and that name remained until 1998 when First Union bought the naming rights. In 2003 Wachovia Bank bought the naming rights, and the name has been the Wachovia Center ever since. Seating more than 19,000 fans, the Wachovia Center is not only a sports venue but also a state of the art concert venue that has seen bands like Kiss, Billy Joel and The Grateful Dead perform within its walls. The Wachovia Spectrum is located just south of Philadelphia adjacent to Roosevelt Park.
